What is Your "Why Statement?"

Before you look at how to successfully manage your time, you must ask yourself one question: WHY is it important to manage my time? WHY do you want to be more effective? WHY do you want to be able to successfully balance your life?

If you have no reason WHY you should manage your time, you won't have any place to begin. Your vision, or your "WHY Statement" is a framework upon which you can set goals in life.

"With a clear vision of what you can become, no difficulty is too great. Without it, we rarely step beyond our current boundaries."

Do you have a WHY statement? Have you seriously asked yourself WHY you are an RA? WHY you are in school? WHY you are in the relationships you are in?

Do Something:

1. Take some time to write out your "WHY statements" in the spaces provided on your handout. Think about the following questions:

  • Why am I a residence hall staff member?
  • Why am I in school?
  • Why... (develop a vision, or a "WHY statement" for other important aspects of your life)
