Dear _____________,
Please accept this letter as my official application for the position of Residence Hall Director at The University of ________. My experience leads itself to the position descriptions found in the ____Date_____ issue of the Chronicle of Higher Education.
As you will note in the enclosed resume, I have had significant practical experiences in both residence life and related areas of student and academic affairs on five campuses. Currently, I hold the position of Residence Hall Director through the Department of Campus Residences at SUNY (State University of New York)- Stony Brook, a very selective, public, state university of 20,000 students in Stony Brook, New York. Additionally, I have held positions at the The South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, University of Northern Iowa, Drake University, and Central Michigan University. Through these experiences in student and academic affairs, I’ve had the opportunity to use my communication skills and creativity in a variety of ways. I created and professionally designed web pages at SUNY-Stony Brook, The University of Northern Iowa, Drake University, and the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology. I also created and implemented hall-wide and campus wide monthly recognition programs. In addition, I have increased my communication skills by presenting at many local and regional conferences throughout the Northeast, Midwest and Great Plains, as well as just recently publishing an article on religious diversity in a professional ACUHO-I Housing Publication. I also have a professional student affairs portfolio that displays my creativity, communication, and residence life skills. I am particularly interested in your ______________________________.
I have enjoyed taking advantage of all there is to learn from faculty, staff, and students in the Midwest and Great Plains, however I am looking forward to focusing my interests, enthusiasm, and energy into a position that allows me to work with a more diverse faculty, staff, and student population.
I will bring skills and experience in residence hall administration and management, student staff supervision, selection, training, and evaluation, student leadership, student advising, educational programming, student and community learning/development to _______City and State_________ and The University of ________ communities, as well as a background in a variety of student and academic affairs areas. I have a strong passion to work with students from diverse backgrounds and experiences. I am committed to higher education and all forms of diversity, and strive to be collaborative in all that I do.
I have included my resume for your consideration. I look forward to having the opportunity to talk with you about The University of ______________. and the Residence Hall Director position. Should you need additional information, please do not hesitate to phone, write, or E-mail me at the above address.
Thank you very much for your time and attention, and I will look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
Brian
