Undergraduate Residence Halls, Department of
Residential Life, University Housing
Our staff makes our halls a home.
We, the staff of the Department of Residential
Life, have a vision for our work, "Learning, Growing,
Mattering: for every person, on every floor, in
every community."
We are seeking individuals who can help create
and foster communities that strive toward this
vision. This includes supporting the academic
mission of the university by developing environments
conducive to student learning and academic success,
respecting, appreciating, and advocating for the
diversity of our student population, and supporting
the holistic development of all our students.
Our undergraduate residence hall communities typically
house 450-500 students. Our 17 full-time, professional
Resident Directors each supervise 8 to 12 Resident
Advisors and student support staff and lead them
in the fulfillment of our vision. They advise
and mentor student leaders to make a difference
in the lives of their peers. RDs work collaboratively
both within the Department of Residential Life
and on campus with talented Student Affairs and
Academic Affairs staff to provide innovative services,
programs, and leadership to the campus community.
Resident Directors are at the heart of what we
do for and with students.
Requirements for Candidacy
Ten-month positions require a Bachelor’s degree

in a related field.
Twelve-month positions require a Master’s degree,
part-time work experience in a related field,
and a desire to work in a living/learning community
environment and to collaborate with faculty.
(Graduate assistantships are considered part-time
work.)
A Master’s degree in College Student Personnel,
Higher Education, Counseling or a related field
and work in residential life or student affairs
is strongly preferred for all RD positions. Successful
candidates will have working knowledge of student
learning and student development, supervisory
experience, and experience working successfully
with diverse college student populations.
