I would like to thank you all in advance for your participation in the event "A Taste of Africa". On behalf of the coordinators, I apologize for the delay in forwarding you the information needed to properly prepare for the program. We ran into some difficulties finding a caterer that will accommodate our African theme at the intended budget. We decided to go with Sodexho Catering Company. We also apologize for the date change and location change. This event will now take place in the A.E. Student Union on Tuesday, February 22 at 6 pm.
To speakers: Ms. Joyce Ellis, you will have a choice between speaking about the fallacy/ misconceptions between Africans and African Americans or the negative perception directed against all people of African origin.
Dr. Freddie Parker will discuss Africa's contribution to civilization, or to the American society.
To debaters: Lamant Lilly, John White, D' Weston Haywood, Tolulupe Omokaiye, Shaun Cunningham, Megan Boyd, Demesha Foster, Dedi Ramsey, Olusanya Hollowman, and Adrianne Jones
Topics for panelists will consist of slavery's affect on today's black women and men, if it should be considered a valid reason for failures and the slave mindset (are you still a slave?) in addition to questions from the audience. If there is something that you feel should be included or taken out feel free to email or call me [phone removed] or [email removed] or Angeline [phone removed] or [email removed]. Please confirm if you plan to be on the panel or let us know if you have changed your mind as soon as possible.
I have also attached a copy of the flyer and the itinerary for the event. Feel free to announce it in your department. If you will like the actual program emailed to you email me back, however it can only be opened in word publisher. Thank you again for your time and patience. I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Sincerely, Alexis Coates-Singh Resident Assistant Residential Life North Carolina Central University [phone removed]
