Description: Do you want to know what your
residents really think? Then this may be the bulletin
board for you. I live in a first year experience
dorm at ODU and Resident Assistants and Peer Educators
are always wondering how to improve the dormitory for
their residents. My Peer Educator and I came up with the
idea of a suggestion box. Just decorate the
background of a bulletin board. Next, staple a small box
and some slips of paper. In my case, we used a sample
survey instead of blank sheets of paper. This way
residents can indirectly and anonymously tell you what
they think. So far, I have gotten about 6 responses.
It is interesting to see what residents
write...considering how reluctant some of them are to
voice their own opinions in hall meetings.
Instructions_Things_Needed:
construction paper
markers
various bulletin board decorations
small box
folder to put blank pieces of paper in
pen or pencil
pen or pencil holder
Other Considerations: Consider bringing up some
of the suggestions and issues in a staff or hall
meeting. Residents will be more encouraged to give
feedback if they know that action is being taken.
Also encourage the residents to come up with their own
solutions to their gripes and concerns. For example, if
a resident would like to see more programs relevant to
him/her, then post a flyer on the bulletin board asking
exactly what kinds of programs do they want to see.
