Description:
This is an ice-breaker type program that uses UNO cards! It's designed
to start conversations about things people have in common and to tell
people things about you that they may not know.
It's designed for 4-10 people and can take 30-45 minutes.
Instructions/Things Needed:
You'll need a deck of original UNO Cards.
PLAY / RULES:
1. Seperate cards and use only the 1's, 2's, 3's, 4's, WILD and WILD
DRAW 4's (40 total cards)
2. Shuffle cards and deal out all cards to players.
3. Start play with the person to the left of the dealer,
going clockwise.
4. Play ANY card in your hand...colors and numbers don't
matter.
5. If you play a number card, tell members of the group something
about yourself based on the number of the card you play (i.e., if you
play a 4, tell 4 things about yourself). When you play your next
number card, you cannot repeat things you've already shared.
6. If you play a WILD card, you may ask anyone in the group one LOW
RISK question, like "where did you grow up?", "Why did
you chose your major?" or "If you could eat dinner with
anyone, who would you eat with?". At that point, the person
who was asked the question will play AND the play remains going in the
direction it was going in.
7. If you play a WILD DRAW 4, you may ask anyone in the group ANY
question you would like, which can be a higher risk type question,
like "What is your most embarrassing moment?", "If you
could change anything about yourself, what would you change?" or
"Have you ever been in love and with who?". At that
point, the person who was asked the question will play AND play
reverses.
8. When you only have one card left, you must say "UNO".
If you do not and someone catches you, that person will give you one
of his/her cards and can ask you ANY question he/she would like.
Play continues similar to that of a WILD DRAW 4.
9. When a player has no cards left in his/her hand, that player is
out. At that point, the players can ONLY ask questions to those
players who still have cards...so it is to your benefit to use your
WILD cards earlier in the game so you don't loose the chance to use
them...if you play a WILD card after all other players are out of the
game, you don't get to ask a question.
10. Continue play until all cards have been played and all players
have used their cards.
Other Considerations:
This is a fun way to get to know other people, so you should be
willing to share. This is a low to medium risk activity,
depending on the types of questions that others are willing to ask.
However, depending on how well the group knows one another it can be a
higher risk activity...just remember you don't want to isolate anyone
when you're trying to get to know them! The time needed for the
activity can vary based on the number of people and what they are
willing to share.
VARIATIONS:
* You can use any deck of cards...I just like to use UNO Cardsbecause
they are colorful and have easy numbers to read and the WILD cards are
handy! Just take any deck and assign values according to
the above directions.
* Use more cards for more people...most people can't really think of
more than 4 things at a time and you don't want people to tell their
whole life story during the game. This is just an
icebreaker...so keep that in mind. You can expand the number of
people very easily. * Feel free to throw in your own rules...throw in
Draw 2's, Reverses, whatever you would like...just think of a creative
way to work them into the game. Make it more complicated if you
want...play a standard game of UNO and assign certain values to cards
where you have to share things about yourself.
* Reshuffle the cards and play another game if you want to get to know
each other better!
* Have fun making up your own game! It's easy and a fun way to
get to know other people!!
