Sex In An Envelope

Program: Sex In an Envelope

Description: The average person has seven sexual partners in a lifetime, and we try to depict this over the course of a week. A cast of characters is written and scenarios are made for various diseases people can contract through sexual intercourse. (i.e. crabs, syphilis, gonorhhea, HIV, pregnancy, etc.) There are also scenarios for those who are gay, remain abstinent throughout their lives, and combinations of these diseases. (Making the scenarios takes the longest) Sign-ups are posted throughout the building and those who want to participate get assigned a fictional sex life for a week, and every day they get something in the mail telling them of their experiences from the night before. We've even gotten so ambitious as to cut pictures out of magazines and assign them to the fictional characters we've made up and make huge posters out of them. The assigned scenario is based on statistics (i.e. 1% of the population will have HIV, etc.) and this is one of the most popular educational programs at the UW. At the end of the week, there is a follow-up meeting where people can talk about their experiences (some people take this VERY seriously and need to share their feelings) and we've heard many good comments about this program. If there are any questions, feel free to ask. Thanks!
